Thanks for the good comments. I'm going to rework the texture a little bit right now to make the dirt more realistic (more at the bottom, scratches following the flow,...). I'm definately going to try out the blue in the spec map. I'll keep it updated ^^
https://www.artstation.com/artbyalireza Here's the badass realistic enviro guy. Check out his 80lvl articles. Lots of goodies. Here is the specific article which discusses tree cards: https://80.lv/articles/alireza-khajehali-boosting-natural-environments/
Do some research on drawing clothing, especially line drawing -- that's where you'll find the most information about how cloth folds happen and how to represent them realistically. Once you've got that, applying the theory to a mesh would be much easier.
I also thought I was looking at reference imagery at first glance. I'm very curious to know how you achieved such realistic lighting. The scene looks and feels cold and wet. I really have nothing but praise for this one. Thanks for sharing!
I spent some time and gave Jam a face. I decided to go with a semi realistic face.............which doesn't look ANYTHING like the original concept. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to tackle her hair
I absolutely love the painting so far! Beautiful hand painted textures. Her eyes feel a little bit off to the sides of her head though. Realistically, the Iris lines up with the corner of the mouth. She looks a little stretched ;p
yeah, it was my intention to make more realistic looking scales, but i had trouble achieving that while using only polypaint. Now that I got down the most of the basic concepts of sculpting, i'll try to focus on learning proper coloring and texturing.
Does this also mean that we can't go fully crazy to make swords that have interesting blades etc and should stick to more of the "completely" realistic ? A: Yes, weapon designs should be based in reality rather than being overly fantasy in nature.
Much better Are you using a coloured spec map ? One thing I have noticed is the 'hand painted' like lines/markings on the brown flat track area. I would suggest a more of a photo overlay to help feel more realistic
Looking like the real thing. I would study what surface detail looks like on sword metal. I see you have some dirt clouded on the hilt. Try to focus them on areas where they would realistically pool as well.
