Thanks very much for sharing - I'd love to have a look at your mud but unfortunately the zip file does not seem to contain Rock_generator.sbs which seems to be required :(
Usually this error means that : - The path contains some characters that produce errors - The FBX mesh use a a version too recent for the bakers - The mesh doesn't exist on the disk
Unity doesn't contain the FBX files themselves, it's all converted to it's own mesh format and stored that way. Which should be a bit smaller than the FBX file.
UE4 doesn't support parametric modifier animations. So yes, doing it in the UE mat ed is the way to go. Also, your thread title contains an oxymoron. ;)
