There is a reaon why many studios bake displacements in Mudbox. As mentioned in the other thread your basemesh has to be dens in curvy areas. Try to bake onto level 2.
Try beveling the edges where you have the casting errors on the top left of your image. Even where there are no errors a sharp 90 deg bend is an ugly thing.
Yes nearly everything is displaced in FX and if not its subdivided. And its no problem if you have "some" triangles in your lvl0 mesh. Animation meshes are really dens these days.

Isn't there enough CG communities; some get lost. For example, Programming and Web Dev forums over the course of a half a year there are two replies to a thread; hardly engaging.
Getting one of the free (or insanely cheap) game engines is definitely one of the best options. 3DO is free but still actively in heavy development http://quixel.se/dev/3do
