Really great work man, really like how your stylized look still has some "real life" resemblance, making it more grounded and somewhere in the middle between a fully stylized mask and a photo realistic one! :D
Very realistic! This may hold you back a bit though, it might be worth it to have more accessories/color/things hanging off to make it more interesting. Way beyond my skill though. How'd you make the staff?
Hey, the lizard is really cool and the stone it's sat on is very pleasant to look at. :) The only thing that in my opinion doesn't fit the scene is the color of the cactuses. They look very cartoonish where as the rest of the scene follows a somewhat realistic color palette.
You might find defining the hull profile with Splines and then lofting along a path would be more realistic to the real construction and give you a more satisfying result, as well as a lot of ability to adjust each profile spline to tweak the shape.
people can do some really sick realistic stuff with just the diffuse/normal/spec combo, without any fancy rendering techniques. post an example and then people can tell you exactly where you need to go with it :)
Oh, man, I like these a lot. I think you cop out a bit with the overly simplified cliche anime faces, i'd love to see something either more realistic or original, but those characters have tons of style.
Upping the lightmap resolution won't do much for artifacts if you don't increase the number of bounces (2 minimum) and the number of rays (minimum 500). For lights, consider the strength and position of the lights to be realistic - just put them where they should be.
Thanks Mimiws! I'm leaning more towards realistic/heavily detailed. It's not going to be as painterly as the concept. Not sure how my skills will be in Substance P/D, though. I'm looking for any resources that will give me a crash course on the program.
I have a question, since this is gonna be my first realistic high poly character, and i've really never modelled for movie purposes before... What is good workflow to do this? (gonna use max and z-brush) thanks in advance ;)
"Your critiques are really good but I think it will give it a more realistic look. I want it to be more cartoonish but with a tuch of realism." thats a lame excuse :P keep practising, and you should really try to implement vigs sugestion.
