How do you unwrap it like that? The only way I read to do that is to manually painstakingly select each polygon and stuff like that. Any way to speed it up? I can't find any good tutorials on that.
From what I've noticed when working with custom weighted normals and LODs, you really need to plan ahead with the model and know where polygons and edges are going to be removed but still keep the normals roughly the same.
You're using roughly a third of your polygon budget on the hands & pendulum; a simple alpha masked quad would work well for the hands. The clock face is really unnecessary - the normal map will show the rings without the cost.
#02: You find yourself wailing "OH MY GOD, ALL MY UV's ARE GONE!!" Do not fret. You just accidently applied the 'Unwrap UVW' modifier when you had "polygon mode" selected.
I really dig the display of from concept to finish, the lack of polygons in the feet disturb me when hes got all those accessories on him, maybe bump up the goatness and give him cloven feet.
foliage=leaves change the normals of the leaves geometry! When you use maya you should select all leaves --> edit polygons --> normals --> Set vertex normal --> xValue=0,yValue=1,zValue=0
oh nice so its texture quads \ polygons it it bone based anims or vertex morphs ? using for example the halflife source tools ? if you did that it would be easy to have him animating really quick in an engine
Interesting... it might be a difference in the way tangent space is created in maya's viewport, and the way it is calculated in CrazyBump / Mental Ray. As an experiment, does CrazyBump's render look better if you split your simple cube into more polygons?
IMO: i see alot of wasted polys, and some things like spots, you can do in texture. those teeth are over 1mln polygons in?=) alpha for it. p.s: very nice job, man, keep that going.
I found a series on Youtube called "UE4 for Absolute Beginers" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9XqRJO5QhQ&list=PLE5hkMIuYJRJdN5cwv6pgdhNsRj_EOKjY I also like the Youtube channel "Polygon Academy" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJps8QxOh4s&list=PLBi3xvwvY3dncU0vlOi7gov3AFmXhRTOm
