Well it has been a few years since I posted. Here is some more recent personal work - I'll skip some of the professional projects that I've worked on over the last few years... Anyway, with this project I wanted to do some more hard surface Sub -D modelling and tackle science fiction material. What better than yet another…
Its looking good, BUT! it can be better (as always). I agree with Orchidface, the scene is overall lacking. Its rather its boring and feels like there isn't a solid direction to it. Why is it boring? Well to start with hallways are Boring! Don't follow the concept 100%, its a good starting point but conceptualize a bit…
Thanks Geno527 and Lawrence Preston! Nice to hear the feedback! Yes that scifi theme was a bad choice. I realized that real-life can be as interesting. I also wanted to keep nature elements there because those are important for the backstory. I think it´s much more interesting to see more modest and organic environment…
Cant we just have a challenge themed öriginal sci-fi? Imagine the future, think like a designer not a 3d artist, and any cliched entries will not win no matter how technically competant they are? We want original design over technical ability, and both will be a winning combination. Personally i think scifi is so cliched…
also: here are some shots of the level currently being worked on. mostly Mass Effect and Star Wars inspired. This is for a final demo project at school, that I and 6 other friends are working on. We are aiming to make a gears of war type of game, as far as gameplay goes, but blend in two worlds of scifi and steampunk. This…
If you go out and watch a movie or play a game today that features fanciful creatures or futuristic robots you will see a visual spectacle that is a far cry from what you might have seen 30 or even 50 years ago. A big part of this is obviously technology, but creative media also feeds off itself and there surly are films…
we all have to rely on our own understanding of what looks "cool" or believeable. So for example if I make a giant buglike war machine Im going to research bugs(praying mantis?) and war machines(tanks?) and then make a design that uses some of my favorite parts of the reference. This is how it was done in the 80s isnt it?…
Updated the original post. Thanks to TeriyakiStyle for recommending Pinterest. Truly does make things slightly easier. I'm no where near done. I'll try to update this as often as I can. Update Log: July 11th 2014* - Removed bad information. Thanks to metalliandy for pointing these out. * - Added a section for Pinterest…
It really does. Solutions depend a lot on the specifics of the problem. But I'm enjoying the topic nonetheless. For my game, a scifi flight sim (in a nutshell), I'm considering making the entire planet covered in fog! Things nearby are visible, things further away are only detectable in a simplified instrument interface.…
get rid of all that hazard striping. its super cliche and the placement of it right now does not make sense at all. I have never seen a hazard striped railing in my life. If you wanted to use it realistically, at the lip of the stairs would make more sense. right now, I think this scene has the common problem of not using…
