cool, heres somit of what ive learnt and some Qs for peeps who know more ive been learning mayas "propper" subD modeling tools not the proxy mesh stuff (or smoothmesh) which is a poor relation to maxes modifier based subD in both terms of functionality and in speed (just a simple mesh smoothed to a decent degree will slow…
Am I the only one who collapses the stack regularly to keep things neat and "final", especially if I am finished working with whatever model I had been working on? What does it matter if you used an edit poly modifier 2 or 3 times to get the result you want if you wind up just collapsing the stack anyway? Sure there are…
There are still times where I use the stack. I just collapse it once I'm at a point with whatever model I am working on where I am either altogether finished, or where simply adding more modifiers to the stack just adds to clutter and mess when previous stacks I no longer need. There are plenty of times when the stack is…
Hello everyone. I'm trying to do some hard-surface modeling, and I'm trying to understand how should I approach these. I already tried modeling them, but had some problems. This is the box I tried to model. The thing is, its a pain in the ass. I dont know how to approach. I'll explain, first, here's the breakdown of what I…
@sera3D Hey buddy, read my post on this page with the leaves in it. N-gons are not your enemy. N-gons on uniform curved surfaces can be your enemy. On supported flat surfaces, N-gons flat out don't matter, and will enable you to save a bunch of modeling time and render-time by letting you end your supportloops in one e-z…
Hello everybody! So I was trying to model this eleven tooth drive sprocket and I've tried a couple approaches. The first one was to try and start from the outer circle for which I made a cylinder with 33 subdivisions since it matched the step of the teeth (1 face = 1 tooth, 2 faces = distance between them). My intention…
Hello again I am still reading here and I have another problem. Here is the image. The biggest problem I am having is to terminate edge if I don't wont it to run across the whole object. And if it is planar it is not a big deal it looks good most of the time but if it curved geometry then I am stuck. This is just an…
Don't remember how the screwdriver is (don't really use them all that much) and the screw I used as reference has the inside a bit dirty and it's quite small, so I definitely didn't notice that it isn't flat. I guess the center is deeper? I'll check on google (no, seriously, the screws I have around are not that good of a…
My opion is try to use Bend and FFD mods when I can. Then used extra geo like 64 sided cylinders to get what you have. I also have a lot of luck with a very lo base mesh sub d to 1 iteration and then modeling in more geo on top or sculpting what ever the need may be. It is like a gear that let say has 8 points coming out…
Hi all, noticed this slight pinching in default 3ds max viewport while doing my practice using the methods shown in this thread. I know its the perfectionist in me killing it, 3d programs like max and maya are not cad tools however just need some advice on this that should I just let it go or is there some other way on…
