Probably going to be best to collapse the symmetry modifier and weld the center verts. Not sure exact how your mesh will be constructed if you don't, probably not in a friendly way(ie: two sides not actually connected).
Are you converting it through the Modify > Convert > Polys to Subd Menu? I tried it and it works for me I smoothed it before hand and it wont let me convert after my division levels are 4+
New update! I Added some alphas into the robes and modify the geometry of the bones to make them feel more pointy. I've also added more symmetry to the hood so It feels more threatening.
New Question. Is there a way to modify the Marmoset Skyshop in dDo? As in a config file. I need to disable GI to match closet the engine I am putting assets into. Right now, they look very different.

its entirely scriptable or you might want to look at using uvw xform modifiers if you dont fancy getting your hands dirty - they'll allow you scale and shift UVs numerically
Study of a elven sword from the Hobbit. Its the sword of Thorin, so I decided to modify it to something a bit smaller by shortening the blade so that it suited better for a dwarf, sort of like Bilbo and Sting.
Looks great! I'm glad you decided to do some final tweaks before calling it finished. The contrast in the eyes and the modified chest piece really pull the whole thing together. Great job!
For organics, you might want to try something like color burn instead, or do like Earthquake said and use the AO map to modify another layer, like through a layer mask or something.
Yea there is a discussion about 3dsmax2012 in the general but I am having this too, especially with the unwrap modifier when closing... seems to be a big issue these new updates, hope they create a hotfix/service pack a.s.a.p.
