Zbrush R2 is more then capable of supporting it's own weight in rendering. Just because people don't make tutorials about it extensively, save for the Workshops at Pixo, doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that it's sub-par.
Removable barrel extension, collapsable stock, this is a wildly intelligent design. This really reminds me of the modular sniper rifles everyone's trying to get contracted with, but with an obvious sci-fi design. Looking forward to more

I'm getting a certain style vibe similar to Tf2's chacaters, and too a certain extent, pixar. Like it a lot, although you might want to take a look at some skinny people for reference.
Anyone can learn to model (to a certain extent), but texturing is a whole other story, and it's a process that will define you as a 3D 'Artist.' So, try to imagine what would look really sweet and give it a shot :]
So would their jungle/forest tech demonstrations indicate that they are using dynamic lighting to a larger extent than before ? Perhaps static of non deformable/destroyable trees and dynamic for the more dynamic bushes and shrubs ?
