I've distributed the polys better, and reduced the number of polys in his arms/legs down to eight vertical lines in the legs and I think 10 in the arms. I know now that I need to form some muscles or something in the arms. But I wanted to post the poly layout first to see what you think thanks again, todd -

I use custom alphas for hard edge shapes, either by using alphas on the uv layout or smaller custom alphas. with brushes It saves so much time and effort so yeah the basic extra pieces as subtools then, detail with alphas or displacments You could do all the leg stuff like this without modellling loads of extra loops. -

hey Don, thanks for the reply. I have not tried the smoothing groups yet but here is the uv layout for the piece, really simple. So each uv island should be its own smoothing group? I usually just turn all smoothing groups off all together. i will try it each island as its own smoothing group -

Amusing how the cover-layout was better for the very first issues. Ofcourse the unified look through custommade covers adds to that, despite how cliched airbrushing looks now. That kicks ass! The purple scales on the left arm don't blend into the chest very well, the seam is kind of abrupt. If they're only making global adjustments, then that is how to reverse engineer. If they did brush-based or masked edits, then making a flipbook style back-n-forth video might help. You can also layout the two version side by side, then cross your eyes, overlaying them on top of each other. Your brain will pick out any… -

No, that's a terrible method. You can try it if you want, but it's really messy. Can you post a screenshot of the UV layout?
