as for long working hours i remember some ex colleagues who complained about our contractual 37.5 hour work weeks in the UK. at their various previous studios (big name ones back then, too) they were used to ... 35 hours per week. which translates to friday afternoons spent in the pub. ;)

All you need is this tutorial by Tim Bergholz https://gumroad.com/timb Its creating a AKM assualt rifle, he talks you though the whole process and its only $35. I watched it as one of my first tutorials and most of what i create today is based off of that one tutorial.
to work it out.. 1/255 * <whatever number you have> the cutoffs they list are per channel - not an average. so no individual channel should exceed 140 or drop below 35 (or whatever) and yes - you should be able to invert roughness to get glossiness - it's a linear image so there won't be any wacky behaviour

I think Avid bought Softimage years ago for like $285 Million, and they sold it to Autodesk for $35 Million? Am I getting something wrong? If not then Autodesk got away like bandits on that deal. Here's to hoping that XSI stays a stable application. That's something it really had over the Autodesk line-up.
