Working on clothing texture. Lots of editing to be done. Not happy with the results to far, I believe I have too much micro detail and not enough medium noise. I want a mix of the handpainterly look and realistic pbr.
does that pixar one translate well for more realistic characters? anybody do anything like that? I'd think so, but the eyes are so big maybe that effeccts where the poles should go. great GIF there btw
Think about what you charge hourly for each type of work and then think about how much time it realistically took (difficult, i know since it was a free time thing) - this is the only way to really do it.
I think you've gone way overboard with your wrinkles. Grab yourself some good quality photo reference. The treatment of the clothing in the show is quite realistic so there shouldn't be much need for translation to the anime style.
As a minor counterpoint to "realistic graphics age badly", Silent Hill 3 still looks amazing 10 years after release, and it's not a heavily stylised game. It does limit itself to fairly small indoor environments though.
Skinned and unskinned meshes are a very different prospect on an iphone4. Realistically you're looking more along rhe lines of 6-7k if you want them to be a decent size on screen, have a decent rig and nice shaders.
Blender and krita for me (the poor man's tools) though 3D coat is generally the industry go-to for hand-painting textures. Substance I actually would not recommend for hand-painting textures, it's really for generating realistic textures
Looks good. Depending on what style you are going for, a bit stylised or realistic, you can add all that fine details in textures and I think you have enough details in the sculpt for bigger chips and dents.
Has to be said. The "art" in games seems stronger in the older games. These days, its all a bit to realistic, which means there is little art involved, which is a shame imo as games as a medium, allow people to create anything.
Maybe go the Megaman route and make the face like a realistically drawn tough guy with a big facial expression? :P (although still retaining a blocky shape, of course) Really great stuff, love the different textures.
