There is a free version of 3DF Zephyr. Its more or less fully functional, but you are limited to 50 images per model. You'll easily hit that limit with large/complex objects, but its enough to learn the process and do plenty of simpler things. -

Is there no solution for this problem? Is there no way to code something that translates the mouse functions? Would reassigning mouse buttons work on an OS level work to get the same mouse navigation as 3dsmax. Reassigning mouse buttons in for example the Logitech software for this specific application only? -

Ok. Does it show up in a material instance? You can try to use a component mask with r-g-b ticked in after the blend angle corrected normals function, but I would be surprised if it wouldn't give a vector 3 by default. -

you should be able to set up vtools to save: <filename>_n <filename>_s <filename>_d and that should just work off your psd's file name, you're not able to do this? Or do you want some other functionality? -

One of the guys at work uses it, looks like it can be handy if you are comfortable with it as you can navigate purely with that. Apparently very handy with mudbox, but not with Zbrush as it just takes over functions of other keys and zbrush of course is prett different for navigation. -

yea for ril my graphire doesnt have tilt functions and i dont feel hampered maybe its cuz im not the greatest artist, but even still, none of my friends feel hampered by it either! go for it man its an investment -

Vig: You wouldn't go back to 2011, then? Polyboost would let you take a snapshot and paint on it in photoshop. I imagine that's what the OP is looking for. I don't have Max 2011, but someone must know where to find this functionality. -

Beats me, Snowfly. I was looking for something like that as well, but came up with nil. That, along with a soft selection tweak of vertices that stick to surface, would be great. Again, the retopo tools just have the absolute minimum functionality to make it useful. -

Crease tool works pretty much the same as crease function in Zbrush, except you can save multiple sets of creased edges and adjust the strength of a crease effect. Texture progress. Gotta finish tomorrow. -

By adding a loop I'm referring to the 'Slice Plane' tool in Max. I know you're using Maya, but I assume that it would have a similar function somewhere. Using it would help keep your model tidier. It's pretty messy at the moment.
