Depends where, I was using XSI on my last project (not in games though) in Vancouver, it seems to be mostly Maya, with some Modo or Houdini on the side, theres maybe 2-5 studios here that use Max fulltime.
Having just found this forum a couple of weeks ago, I have been following the current challenge thread and it inspired me to join and give it a try! This is my vote, It looks like the perfect scene to create in Houdini ;)
substance painter/3d paint prgrams in general/zbrush/maya 3ds max/houdini/photoshop/Blender yeah hate em all, have gone to the darkside  (reaches for water color paper and dusts off brushes)
Update, I created a fire particle with a sprite sheet created in Houdini. I also made a simple brazier and created the same patterned iron bars as in the concept in 3D. Here is how everything together looks in the scene.

Many of the filters you'd want from a terrain generator are very difficult (if not impossible) to recreate in Designer - you're far better off working with a purpose built tool. You particularly encounter problems when working with unreal due to it needing silly sized image output that designer can't support Houdini has…

Everything they've done since 10,000BC up to and including the The Lion King and...ahem..Cats... has been done with this tech. Simulation I think might have been done in Houdini but I can't recall. Not…

I don't claim to know exactly how the artists pulled off the things in your shots, but I've recently experimented with terrain in more VFX geared software like Houdini and you would be surprised at out much control you can have to whip up some pretty cool terrain relatively quickly. There's also some pretty good tutorials…
Maybe it 's one of reasons why pro CG soft is still so monstrously inconvenient in general. There are few examples of nice tools and features here and there scattered among different soft . Mostly they are addons and plugins somebody did for free or cheep. So I don't believe in developers. I do believe in open source ,…
