Is there an alpha channel? And is the diffuse color in the material set to green? If so, in the bitmap params, disable Image Alpha.

The material name in max doesn't matter. The actual name of the map in the diffuse slot needs to be the same as the VMT.

I did the diffuse and applied the displacement map I get with crazybump in the alpha channel of the normal map ...

most objects have AO baked into the diffuse maps but SSAO is available when we run the game.
