I think 1024 is fine for the fish plate. Especially for a portfolio piece. I can see that being like an artifact or something in a Drake's game or a Resident Evil. One that you can zoom in, rotate around etc.

@suburbbum on account of the water and rain, cracks, etc. I agree with you. I had a few comments to work those in. My line of thinking was grass + roof = wtf. I'm happy to see I'm not the only one.
Thats pretty damn good. Very Pirates of the Caribbean. I listen to a lot of OST stuff, currently going through an 80's fantasy movie phase (Legend, Excalibur, Labyrinth, Krull, etc) Look forward to more.
Working on the Pawn for the Chess Set Challenge...Theme is "Post-apocalyptic mutations" It's a little dark to read right now, but I still have a long way to go (armor, weapons.maps, retopo...etc.) ..and a whole lot more paint.

Pardon my french, but no reason to be stuck in 1996 mate. Use a sculpting app (e.g. zbrush, mudbox), and do retopology afterwards if you really need them edge loops. (via 3dcoat, topogun, modo, maya's nex, etc ..)
