hey Fansub, if you need some one to test out your mel script in MayaLT, just ask me, your script is taking a really nice progress even if i don't model hard surface meshes and even more in maya, the twist feature is looking really great :)
What programming languages do you guys know/use to right your tools? I really want to move past just doing MEL & action scripts and be more resourceful. I hear python opens up a lot more doors, any good sources for where to start?
In Maya I figured out how to layout and stack UV shells based on user grouping. This was the most requested feature people were always asking me for so I'm pretty happy it worked out. At first I thought it was impossible in Mel, but I figured out a hack way to do it.
I'm also not tech artist and I've been doing lots of scripts but using MEL in Maya which is nice some simple things. I do know some very basic Python too and lately I've been looking into switching for good from MEL to Python so i was guessing that you guys are using Python but what i was curious about is how much in your…
Nice stuff, and good idea Brice! :) I've got a couple of WIP MEL scripts and Maxscripts, will see if I can grab any useful screenshots tomorrow and maybe polish one or two ready for release. A maxscript LWO importer, a Maya "OBJ bits box" and some random UV tools I think...
Surely this will only happen if you declare them as global? Do you mean prototyping scripts in the Maya Script Editor? I always write my stuff in Notepad++ (for syntax highlighting) and save as a .mel file, and just have a shelf button for source myProc.mel; myProc; in order to refresh and re-run it. That way you never get…
This wannabe-TA (me) is working on a material tool for Maya meant to aid our level designer. Written in MEL ofc, and I'm building it around a stripped-down version of the original hypershade. Currently stripping away all the bullshit in it - I just want to keep the material stuff from it, and then add my own stuff and…
Thanks Eric, I'm not a fan of the circle ones myself, but I could add it in if someone wanted it. The preset checkers are generated procedurally in mel script so it's quite time consuming to create additional patterns. I just went with the one I've used most of my career plus three of the other ones the guys at work seemed…
Yeah tell me about it. I also have this internal todo list of MEL-stuff I wanna do but never have the time for :( Having a job has both it's pros and cons. Planning on learning Python, PyMEL, Qt and Maya API once I'm done with this though - feels like I smart move for someone who wants to be a tech artist :/
Ah yes, that's what I ran into the performance was unacceptable. I've heard if you make things like that a plugin you get the performance back, but I have no idea how to use the API language and also when you make a plugin it only works for the version of Maya you compile it for which is super limiting for the consumer. I…
