I use blender for export to smd is just 1 click thing. All you have to do is select the mesh and path (where the file saves) and it exports to that folder with the mesh's name.
nop man =] the difference between those tuts is that i use a program called guistudiomdl to compile and the smd exporter that comes with the source film maker, its on the maya folder inside the instalation of sfm

Dota 2 automatically compiles mdls for you every time you import a model. You just need to navigate to the folders containing the items you've imported before and use the mdls that have been compiled there.
Just rename your output filename, i use something easy, like test1...30, to test my stuff. And don't forget to clean up your content folder, because everything you compiled is still there!
just copy that crap into notepad do save as > run this.bat or waht ever you want. and put in the main bin folder of dota2 where hlmv.exe is, and the just run it and it should launch and give you better results

@StuBurrito: I did it,then deleted again my spectre folder and imported everything,still the same 100% flat resoult from the image above :/ I've also attempted to import the texture at 256 x 256,still flat lighting and no normal... :/
