Ok thank you!!! You guys have given me a lot to think about. That .mel script, I have no idea how to use it but I'll look into that later. I already found the script, CGTalk, it's near the bottom. Implementation no clue, will figure out later I hope.
Can you have another seamless texture on top.. whats that called again? I mean its a alpha planned seamless texture that you can paint on with a brush on top of your initial layer in the game to break up the pattern randomly. Sometimes these can be multiple layers deep.
We've just updated the site with a new version which contains a lot of bug fixes and other enhancements. We've also added LAYERS as a new feature. It works like like layers in photoshop, but for vertex colours. There is an new video showing this off here: http://www.renderheads.com/portfolio/VertexChameleon/
While you've got the layer you're working on selected, click the lock transparent pixels button up top of the layer pallete. That'll stop it bleeding transparency out. But be careful because it'll still blur to a whitish colour if you use the tool too much around the edge.
Not sure. You should be able to load old settings in a later version of Max. But mostly you can't go the other way... loading later versions in earlier Max, for example trying to load a Max 2015 file in Max 2012 won't work, but vice versa does, mostly.
Sorry it's under image adjustments, you can also create a black and white adjustment layer. Black and white actually isn't the best way to do it but it's the same amount of work as desaturation. The best way to do it is to flatten your image and use a luminosity layer but that requires more setup.
been away from this for a bit... forgot to check updates! From what i can recall, the only thing that set it off was opening up layer properties. I use a hotkey for it, and dont double click layers. There is no solid repro anywhere that i have found, just annoying :)
Hey that's neat. Did you develop this? Which versions of PS does it support? Fill% is different from Opacity% btw. Fill is helpful when you use Layer Blending effects like Bevel, Stroke, Drop Shadow, etc. since it only affects the layer pixels not the effects.
I got it! Thanks! I have one more question regarding DDO, how do you add a paint layer? This is a really stupid question I know but I went through a video tutorial on DDO as well and did not see or missed adding a paint fill layer.
Usually yeah, for scratches I usually contrast the hell out of a fitting photo the just clone stamp in screen mode into a layer mask for a bare metal layer. I also painted some faint white/black smudges near/onto the edges with low opacity soft brush.
