As a student who was hired straight out of school, I hope I can impart a bit of recent first hand experience. First, everyone else is right that you need to compare against yourself against industry standards. I would say out of every graduating class, 10% of that class will get into the industry. The rest will not. Even…
oh man, what a beat down! I guess I still have a long way to go on this. And with the art in general. heres what im thinking for now, if ive missed anything let me know: 1.) BE SURE OF FIREFOX 100% COMPATIBILITY. PERIOD. 2.) figure out a proper redirect, instead of glitchy splashpage. 3.) get rid of the z-indexs 4.) change…
Pretty cool stuff, I like the concept and in general the execution is fairly good. I particularly like the concept! It may be a doodle, but it's effective and nicely done. Some issues that I notice: - Anatomy isn't very accurate. That bicep is huuuuge and nothing at all like realistic. Similarly the muscles in the abdomen…
He looks a bit too human in my eyes to really be an orc, take the long ears off and you have a fugly bodybuilder. When you look at this piece and see the augmented anatomy, it really doesn't make him look more orcish, nor do they really blend together to create an interesting fantasy character. I'd recommend changing him…
Hi QB1! I love the colors and composition; everything looks great! However, I have a problem with the space between the foreground and the background. You have really nice contrasts and the main focus is on the magic stones, which is amazing. But I think the background with the trees seems flat, as if there is no distance…
You should be able to get a decent bake with high poly tentacles on the anemone. A bunch of cylinders around the top, then put the planes right through the middle (top facing nes only). Bake and clone/flip those planes (at least for the high, I don't think you need down facing planes on them in game. Might even look best…
Your stuff is solid but I'm guessing you run into similar problems as I do. I'm not sure what sort of jobs you are applying for but I found that studios would not even consider me if they were working on next gen games because my art was not good enough. Stylized studios wouldn't consider me because I don't have enough…
The specular on the left looks a little better, maybe just a touch more on the dull side as it reads as its wet or plastic. The specular also has no color, most specular highlights have some color. If you look at the concept its a little on the greenish side. As for the textures themselves. It's too much on the blue side.…
Usually my go-to as well. But do not just model anything, model something with a purpose. If you know what you want to specialize in, or an inkling of an idea, start picking concepts and ideas off the shelf that relate to those goals of what you want to be in the industry. If you want to be a character artist, could grab…
MoP / KDR: well have you seen the art of the Disney garg fandom? Their creativity is even more severely limited there, making them all do cartoony, anime "friendly" like gargoyles that all happen to look almost exactly the same. They often have the same clothes or hair too. Infact the fandom is so scary there it's crossing…
