Those white pixels could be a result of a too high specular value. You could also turn on color clamping. These white spots are superbright pixels which don´t translate well when vray saves the image which is internally rendered in 16 or 32bit per channel as 8bit per channel.

Yeah, if you just need one trim board for the well you could probably get by with a 32x256 one plank tex. But with that you could texture trim on five different objects and use 5 different planks and you'd have good variety. Plus use it for a floor as well.
Use a 32bit TGA. Load it in Diffuse channel, and disable Alpha. Drag-copy into Opacity, enable Alpha, set it to Mono Channel Output. (IIRC, don't have max open)
