I think it is a very popular opinion that once a software reaches a certain stage of maturity, a) most their users already own a copy and b) updates are getting smaller. That is usually when a company will switch to a subscription model to keep the money coming in.

First time doing one of these challenges and it gives me the chance to use Zbrush and UDK. Next I'm going to create basic pattern textures in B&W and import those textures into Zbrush as a template to build up the HiRes models.
I think be consistent per piece, anything backgrounds purely on the B/W spectrum tends to be harsh. I think the background color for your Squig was fine. Just repeat it for the turntable shots and I think it'd be just fine.

It looks like you have soft select turned on - hit the B key to toggle it on / off. In your move tool settings, you might have "Viewport Color" disabled, which doesn't show the radial falloff colors on the UVs.

Experiments with b/w gradients give interesting results in very little time those are all very fast.Not refined that much as I plan to have some time in future to make a complete concept out of them in another software.
