Well, what resolution are you planning to export at? Those artifacts can be ignored if your intended resolution is fine. What's causing it is the mipmapping at the UV island edges, pre texture bleed.
The second one was designed to be blended on the edges of the another rock texture, So the height doesn't really matter, as its more about the width. Here is the reference I very loosely followed
I think it could use some red accents around some of the areas to help separate areas that blend in too much. A good example would be bounty hunters shoulders in this image:
The immersion factor with lost coast for me ended when I saw the obvious visible edges of the water "blending" with the sea. But this is a love thread, so i'll end my crap here.
Just take your top normal layer, go to it's blue channel, do Image->Adjustments->Levels...->Set the output to 127. Click OK, then set that layer's blend mode to to Overlay.
do you want to become a game designer or game artist? while design and art can blend together at times, gamedesign usually has nothing to do with the art side of production.
I'd have to disagree, this might be the case for his pauldrons, but I think the rest of the armor fits together really well. Color scheme blends nicely together as well, nice work!
