Not really sure what it looks like when in FPS style view, but I think you are relying too much on just the sunlight to light the level. I get that its near the ocean on a clear day when the sun makes a HUGE impact on the lighting of the day. I think it would almost be better moving the sun down over the horizon, that way…
Max used to be more commonly used for environment stuff, but I've noticed a gradual shift to Maya, so I suggest learning Maya rather than Max at this point. You can probably keep using Sketchup if you like it and are fast with it...you can do basic architectural forms in Sketchup, and should be able to import that into…
Yeah. Because though it is 3D, with both it's shape, color, and general direction in shading all similar, it feels much closer than if it were just one or the other. I tried adjusting the color a bit and simplified/modified the direction of the shading so it follows enough direction to fit the style but does change how it…
Good morning folks. A little update: I am still working on the map. I'm spending a lot of time on it in the hopes it will speed things up later. I began by outlining all the neighborhoods, then I consolidated them based on similarity from a quick view (sorry for the hasty generalization, I'm sure your neighborhood is very…
Is this a portfolio piece, or is it development for an actual game? If the former, then perfect technique doesn’t really matter, it’s much more important that the landscape looks amazing. Definitely should be done in a game engine, but an optimized performant technique is not required at all. The tech in actual production…
Haven't used mudbox, but from what I hear, it's very easy to pickup, was built to sculpt high res stuff and does it well. Z3, lots of stuff in it (including perspective view now). Possibly better to learn this as it has more features and is harder to get to grips with. I would think a studio looking for people who can…
My examples are in Zbrush, but the same principles apply no matter which software you use. There is no 'right' way exactly, but there are ways of doing things that are considered 'industry standard' or are proven to be better ways from experienced people. It takes practice, trial and error to see what works best for you.…
you have some really nice pieces here, what Kaburan said I think it could be brought in closer....would be a shame to put in all that effort and not be able to appreciate all the work you put in
pretty excited about this one, all my friends were into diablo2, so hopefully we'll all be able to take a break from wow and play this can't wait to get my pimpalicious signed copy
Yep this was modular. All the pieces had to be able to work with the other revolvers which made some things a little difficult at times but it's super cool once it's all done and you can swap pieces out.
