Be carefull with the color in the env. IMO you have way to many colors going, and it can end up looking more like a christmas tree. If you want the fire to look hot (or have focus), desaturate the surroundings. quick paintover.
We have this client specialized in high-end luxury staircases. They required a detailed 3d rendering of one of their wooden staircase designs, which they intend to use as part of an important presentation and marketing. We are in the developing stage and trying to portray the craftsmanship and high-end feel of their…
Kaine123, at first I was thinking about doing that, but decided not to because I wanted to try texturing water. I liked having an excuse to throw blue into the scene. xxroxx, I changed the lighting to focus on the tree ent more. skodone, Toned down the blues quite a bit. I was aiming for the blue hour feel, but it did feel…
"Equinox: End of Days" is a third-person Investigative-thriller set in 1960s Isles of Scilly, developed by a team of Second Year students studying at The University of Hertfordshire, UK. Playing as farm-hand Edward Travellion, the player seeks to uncover the cause of a string of disappearances along the island's coast.…
Hm, ok. I just re-exported the mesh from Blender without adding any geometry and the cage is different than with the original fbx. original - oddly also shows those pink edges as being sharp without UV splits, which isn't so when I checked in Blender re-export - there's still one sharp edge without UV split being shown,…
Well, I think both have their challenges but in most cases, an env artist position will be easier to ascertain merely because there are always more env artists spots to fill for any game and multiple disciplines within env art. I started my career as an env artist and then switched over to characters after a couple years.…
Im curious on the texture end of things what the teams approach is. Was having a discussion with a friend yesterday about it and neither of us could really say for sure. Most the env stuff is so noisy, you could get away with polypainting colors, with a little photo sourcing to boot. That was my guess atleast. Can you…
You might just not enjoy making props or maybe you get bored because it takes too long to do just one thing. I suggest you do practice "sketches" where you do only poly modeling or only texturing but try to find ways to make the process more enjoyable. That way when you do a full prop or env you have a certain workflow…

I was at Turn10 as well for most of the production. I was on the env art side, but looked at quite a few cars while working there. I think the cars are a mix of scanned in and hand modeled, but in general it was mainly hand modeled. All of the Autovista cars are extremely detailed. Probably something like 2.5 million…
