Necrothread this TWICE? Why not! Gonna try to actually finish this one off now in the spirit of mental peace! Have grown to hate many things in the design but im just gonna power through it and finish it off and slap some quick autotexturing on the highpoly and render out :)
As a highpoly it is fine, but you have to build a Low Poly and use Bakinging workflow. If you want to use your exsisting Candle, use the "Retopology" Workflow. If your are Working with Maya check out this out: Video/Channel: FlippedNormals https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpDWta5O3n8
Looks super cool already! I got a couple of questions: Is that your blockout or highpoly... or already your low? If its the low already how many tris is it - will it be? Also, how long did it take you so far? Can't wait to see the finished product!
Readjusted the crotch as per your suggestion, and fiddled with the waist and added some definition to her neck and armpits. Assuming I haven't made any major physiological or topological screw-ups, I think I'll start work on the highpoly. Alpha-map scales, hooo.
Make a ice cube lowpoly that is properly baked from a sculpt, make sure to add a detail normal on top or have enough noise in the highpoly then use or make a refraction shader and play with fresnel, nothing too special, you just have to try something out
sorry to say she kinda looks like she has fat cheeks or jowels. They dont look very pronounced on the highpoly but somehow its crept back in. Also the ring on her back looks warped, maybe try flatten that area to make it easier on yourself?
Did made so much progress this week due to a cold. :poly118: Cleaned the meshes and did the UV Layout for all for parts: Next will be to create the high poly of the base, the parts and the canon itself, once done the baking will start. (The highpoly and bake for the arm is already done)
Same issue here however in Maya 2013, since I bought GTX 570 my framerate is really dropping down, even selecting a highpoly (preview) mesh takes at least 10 seconds (argghhh) My system: CPU: Q6600 2.4, 6GB RAM
the average normals thingie are a few buttons inside a box titled "average". you need to hit the "selected" button. had trouble figuring that out too :| had major problems baking normal maps from highpoly with this - but thats probably because im too stupid :)
I would make highpoly's for hero pieces that could not be made with the tileable textures I have from before. I will do most of the environment and props with tileable textures. Snefer has a tutorial on eat3D that is well worth a watch, although the site seems to be down atm.
