Saidin: This is an interesting question. I always plan to split things up beforehand a little and as I work it becomes clear, that each design is composed of 2 or 3 base elements, so to understand how the object works I finish out those elements more fully than the concept, ie. I build stuff that cant be seen when the…
The best thing you can do is experiment. If the wall is plaster and exposed bricks you want to have a texture dedicated to plaster, one one for the bricks provided the bricks and wall are not the same material. If that is the case you might be able to just have seamless texture for the wall that gets reused on the bricks.…
Hmm I guess I should have better explained what I was trying to get to. Id like to see a new take on an existing game by emphasizing or strengthening key elements in that game that makes it unique. I would honestly like to make a team based metroid mod if it could be done well (and if Nintendo wouldnt shut it down when…
Thanks, yeah I'm hoping it's helpful to someone, maybe someone can learn something from seeing my work, or else someone can tell me how to improve that work. Seems like a win-win situation. @Donavonyoung - It's an interesting thing with art tests really... do you try to match the concept that you're given? Do you try to…
Mayterials Day 22 - Elemental: Today's prompt went through a few iterations before I settled on the elemental fire ruins. Initially I chose a bramble/forest elemental material but realized I wouldn't have the time to finish it. I'm definitely glad I switched!
Quick update on my Serpent Hive Cave environment! 🐍 =) I’ve been refining the scene composition and adding new elements to strengthen the overall mood and structure, such as the spiked barricades and environmental dressing. The lighting setup you see here is still temporary, WIP lighting. I plan to make the final version…
1) Lack of clarity with elements that cannot be cobbled/synergized from existing world objects easily. 2) I usually design unclear elements on my own to clarify the elements 3) Usually an existing render tartget asset assists with converting most 2D concept art to 3D for me.
So i've been working on this project for some time although with considerable interruption due to other stuff poping up. Anyway I think it's time to show what I have so far and start a thread about it. So my goal is a new portfolio piece and a another opportunity to learn about hard surface modeling. I got inspired by the…
ParoXum, if I remember correctly you need to add new elements inside the lensflare, do no edit the base element (named Source). When I used UED it almost always crashed as soon as I changed anything on the base element. Quick guide: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/LensFlareEditorUserGuide.html This might be out of date.
