XnView is pretty decent at reading PSDs. You can even cycle through the layers, though layer transparency and blending modes are not very well previewed.
impressive foliage work! I guess its mostly alpha cards but the shading on it looks quite believable and the blending between pieces is really hard to see.
any reason you're not using tiling rock textures/blending on the cliffs to get more resolution/detail? or is that sculpt going to be optimized and used as a low poly?
Some progress. I had to blend the normals for the wood and stucco separately. The normals for the wood were very shallow before. This looks a bit more balanced.
As always, awesome! I noticed abit of color bleed in some parts of the flare being white when they shouldn't be, is this a texture limitation or video compression issue?
That is only part of it. You actually have to do a couple things in photoshop to blend normals together properly. There is a good video here. http://vimeo.com/8025133
Yes, the colours have to be solid for the masking to work as it should. So padding or diffusion on a single island like this leads to errors as the texture bleeds onto itself.
