Dunno bout that specific error message above, and saving without success at 2 gig sounds limiting. I am on an older laptop and the usual character polycount gets up around 12Mil. My rig is 64bit. I haven't had a mem error since forever because I keep it under 12Mil and reduce subtool to their lowest level before saving.… -

I disagree with the above. I personally wouldn't animate it without a joint/bone based skeleton. In Maya you can only use IK on joints (not just any hierarchy) and I guess that's the same in max, and you'll want IK. Thanks for the tutorials! Finally I finished my Volvo and I want to rig it. I see in tutorials that the wheels, car doors are separated meshes for the rig, but I don't really know when you should separate them for the rig or when it should be just by vertex group. I want the model to make it ready for Unreal Engine. -

You mentioned you have to learn rigging in Max as well. Did they specify a bones rig or Character Studio/CAT? Learning to create a human rig with bones would take longer. With that along with modelling/UVing, and as you mention the holidays getting in the way, you would really have to bust ass and hardly get any sleep. -

Is there a technical requirement for not referencing the character rig file into your animation file? That would solve the problem of rigging the same character multiple times... and if any armor/weapons get changed, you only have to change it in the referenced rig file. Re: Reseting transform without repositioning object in Max?
Not really, in the past for me it's always been an ugly manual process, resetting transforms on something already rigged. Because the rig is usually very specific to the transform. Copy the pieces that need to be reset, unlink them from the rig, reset them, then replace the originals and adjust. One of the animators here… -

Yesterday I made the character's rig, and sculpted the sword. AS always my rigs are made with Blender's addon Rigify.
