A lot of this great, older stuff we have in museums, and that we call "art" without question were commissioned pieces either to sell religion, portray the status of the person painted, or sell patriotism. Make stylized art. Non-realistic art almost never has an expiration date. Cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse are classic examples of art that went through a few evolutions and then stayed the same for decades with no one complaining.
