nnq2603 thanks for seeing that, yeah putting a circle into a flat object is not the hardest but the method of using a square is the best when it comes to using something flat. It really depends what the end form needs to be. While we are on the subject of different methods did you know in max 2011 now has button to make…
Hey guys, wondering if you have any tips for creating complex turbosmoothed indents in panels using floating geo. I watched Korper's perpect paneling video here, but it doesnt seem to translate well when using turbosmooth. https://vimeo.com/3301759 Here's my attempt using his method, and adding turbosmooth. This panel sits…
Hey guys I have a small problem here. Basically what I am trying to do is to model some sort of leather wrap around my knife handle. Here is the picture: Currently I am trying to do it manually but it is really hard to get that natural fold look and it simply takes alot of time. Is there some sort of tool in Maya that…
That is awesome advice Perna. I try to always think of model size compared to the player, and the amount of pixels that are going to picked up by the normal map. If you are modeling a cylinder with hole punched through it that is the size of the player then yea make a nice round cylinder. But if these holes in the object…
If you only want to bake a normalmap out of it you can also create the tire profile with floating geometry. Maybe you need to soften the edges of the tire profile a bit to get a nicer transition on the normalmap :). And don´t be shy with edgeloops when you create highpoly objects. If you need more geometry to add detail,…
@mrjojo you moved on to adding support loops and bevels much too soon if you say you're having trouble. Also important to note that if an object looks to be separate in the concept, make sure it's separate in the model. Makes things easier to model, and easier to bake an ID mask later. Focus on clean modeling and good…
Thanks dude. I am tryin to do it with capsules since its the most similar to the final shapes and are parametric (so I can adjust segments ad stuff parametrically inside the proboolean object) And Ive tried with much less geo and it aligns even less. Im having a mental block in here, this shape is driving me nuts.…
For the first one you could just make a smooth sphere, then make the outside edges of the panels as a separate object, lastly make the inside edges and move it all into place with face-snapping to the original sphere. For the second one I'd do the same but make the lines with beziercurves, retopo the spherical parts and…
I think booleans are just what you need. Just make sure you make proper objects to cut your cylinder with them. Use some kind of bullet shape for the long cuts and simple cylinders for cuts in between. Or make a torus that will intersect with the mesh creating the cuts you need on the whole cylinder. That shouldn't be too…
Hello again I am still reading here and I have another problem. Here is the image. The biggest problem I am having is to terminate edge if I don't wont it to run across the whole object. And if it is planar it is not a big deal it looks good most of the time but if it curved geometry then I am stuck. This is just an…
