Hmm I don't like either of the handpainted concepts but I need to do something... I haven't done anything that big before but I'll try making the tea house : x
For some reason I haven't tried the snap hotkeys while splitting. Does X (snap to grid work too)? This could allow you to keep "contrain to edges" unchecked always.
people seem quite understandably upset about the lack of gui upgrade when that was more or less promised in 3.x and unity is almost useless for mobile without thirdparty ui plugins.
Does 'Mac Support' mean games can be deployed on Mac, or that the Editor will run on Mac? EDIT: Looks like just support for games. Still waiting for that OS X Editor support!
I wonder how much of it is just marketing hype at this point, I don't see OpenGL, Direct X (Microsoft), and Nvidia letting AMD getting a 9 times drawcall advantage.
when I mirror my model in 3ds max I get also shading problems . What I usually do is resetting X form of the mirrored part and then flipping the faces.
Just make a plane, rotate it so its vertical and apply a material with the image on it. Then scale it to fit the correct proportions :) For transparency if you select the object and hit alt+x it will make it transparent.
Go to Customize-Preferences-Viewports-Configure Driver and there is a setting for "display all triangle edges". Press X to re-enable the gizmo. alt-middle mouse to rotate around in your scene.
I'd skip the whole high poly part, that's total overkill for what will end up as a tiny model on a tiny screen with a texture around 256 x 256 or less. Paint it by hand.
You should only bake normals for Cryengine using Xnormal, using the tangent space plugin they provide for it (CryTB) and a swizzle of X+Y-Z+. Otherwise, you'll get shading errors.
