done with the model and on to presentation! (Unless anything is pointed out as being wrong) I'm trying to play about with my presentation atm so crits would b great :) Thanks
Pictures please. There's nothing "wrong" about your workflow, because my confusion is that A. What does your low poly look like? B. What exactly is your goal?
depends. the new version of Zbrush does. if you press B to open the brush pallette near the bottom there is the Zmodeller brush. if you have that you can do that sort of stuff :)
I really like the way this is coming along so far. I like both A and B but think that the green/yellow in A would give a better contrast to the purples in the rest of the room.

you have some 90 degree on your model , and that will not turn so good on your bake http://wiki.polycount.com/NormalMap?highlight=%28\bCategoryBumpMap\b%29 hope that help :)
Looking good. Might be cool if the spikes curved in towards the center of the arc radius as they moved from A to B (not just remained upright). What software are you using out of curiosity?
for gold you sorta need reflections. can be just a b/w cloud render from photoshop tinted yellow or orange - depending on what kind of gold you are going for.
