In my experience. Diffuse/Albedo and spec masks should be in sRGB and normal maps and spec roughness shouldn't.

I keep it black - but I use a mask in photoshop when I apply it to the final diffuse texture.

That's alot Jerc, Gonna give that a try now, as for the diffuse color it is set to sRGB and the roughness/metalness is unchecked

It is really good, but the 100% black bits are really noticable. There would be a little diffuse lighting going on back there.
