I'm aware this thread is old, but I'm revisiting old work and would love some feedback, particularly on the lighting. I always struggle with lighting, so any advice would be good.
If it's old the look you want. You can easily show that on the blade via diffuse and specular . Old blades typically will dark and have a noise over the surface that gives it a brittle look.
Before and after showing a total redo of an old model (character is from "The Ballad of Nessie" by Disney). I did the old version when I first started teaching myself to sculpt.
I hade my old Radeon All-in-wonder do this. It would overheat within a few min and glitch. Was told old by then, and aftermarket heatsinks too much. Bought a new card.

I think I two have two "solutions" for your concern about the toolbars: 1) instead of converting a toolbar to a tab you can create a new tab and then copy all buttons from any toolbar to this tab.
