If you mean multires, go to the lowest res then press Apply Multires (in the editing panel). Or in 2.5 it's a modifier so you can just press the X in the modifier box.
from my research there are more like hundreds of versions. And that version right there is definitely a 7.62 x 54 mm. an easy way to tell is by the more bent/curved magazine

Sounds to me like you're looking for this: This will align to X, Y, Z anything you have selected. Combine it with constrain to get more control as well.
What workflow are you using to make these sculpts tileable textures? Edit: Nevermind, you explained it on the first page, unless you've changed it since then. :x
