Maybe because PS in general is pretty stable, at least compared to 3D programs. That makes the occasional crash even more painful though because it comes out of nowhere.
Are you using dual monitors? I seem to recall having to use DualView instead of Horizontal Span. My memory is a bit foggy but the problem and solution are certainly familiar.

The problem I see with the fingerprints is that they are too perfect and regular to be a blood stain. Awesome! So you modelled all the engravings? The metal looks good but I'd add some muzzle burn to the end of the barrel I think. Taking into account the 40K universe I'd go for 'ornate but worn' and add some battle damage, since inquisitors are very likely to see actual combat. Maybe discolouring the almost pristine gold…
