it doesn't matter you have skill to do digitally or manually, art has no boundaries.. if you are happy to create something, just do it.. you have that freedom.. cheers..
I think a lunar buggy should have independent suspension, having your suspension fixed like that will only cause it problems. endless inspiration is "freedom", check it out
stick with it. With learning, take as long as you need. Being comfortable with fundamentals will allow more freedom when you build your folio. No shortcuts allowed!

In the case of sandbox games, absolutely. I was thinking more old school first person shooters where level design sometimes had a bit more freedom and non-linearity.
Its a good way to practice your environment work as well as your speed. Good thing about this test it gives you a good bit of creative freedom with the overall look of it.
You could maybe consider separating the cloak into two objects (since it's currently two layers textured onto one plane) that would give you a bit more freedom.
