Very nice, i'm not the best at UV'ing but i do feel there is a bit of UV wasted space? (like you could scale some things up etc...the layout is beautiful) Is it because you plan on adding a bit more geometry or for the padding?
Thanks for the feedback on the site! The issues with images not showing up seems to a bandwidth problem from the host, which I'll definitely need to look into. And yes, I'll try and sort of optimize the layout so it's easier to navigate. Thanks again for the comments, guys!
It struggles with any non-grid layout it seems. It will never replace an artist in any case. You'll always need a human eye to get the best result. I can see it being handy as a supplementary tool, but a human touch will never be discarded.
prolly more to do with your UV layout and having sharp angles that are on soft edges, rather than the script than. since i personally use python version that does Exactly what this script does and it all works great for me.
I'll add it to the wishlist. However the more items we add up there, the more difficult the layout becomes. Especially important on mobile. We might condense some of them, like combining the profile pic with the Account Options, and/or combining Notifications and Inbox.
Regarding re-using parts of a texture : I would say that the best way to go around it is to make a 2d stamp of an existing area that you want to duplicate. You can also start with ptex and reproject to a regular UV layout later on.
ambitious! I like the layout. If I were you, I would make another copy of the concept withe the same exact aspect ratio as your screen. it will give you a better sense of scale, and it will be easier to match your perspective to that of the concept.
This is not really necessary. You can use things like zbrush's UVmaster to do UV's if you're applying a tile or something and don't need to worry about the layout. The workflow is typically highpoly - lowpoly - UV - bake highpoly onto the lowpoly - texture
Alright, it's been a while. I've been working on some new stuff and a new web layout. Any feedback would be appreciated and implemented as I'm graduating soon and am looking to get my feet wet. Thanks everyone! www.JoshRife3D.com - Amad
A bit off topic from the thread, but, I'm going through max plugins.de and can't find a plugin that 'straightens verts' like some UV tools do on the UV layouts (I want it in 3D space with the model). Does one exist?
