Scan some pencil drawings in and post them. There's no point in asking for advice on "mistakes" on this ... er ... digital painting if those problems run through into your basic drawing skills. I mean you could be seven, or mental, or drawing it with a mouse attached to your forehead for all we know. Give us some context… -

Aha! see, way better already! It's hard to say whether you should work big or small to practice -- small FORCES you to ignore detail, which is very very good, but big is generally way easier to deal with in digital formats. edit: pow! Not very good painting, but hopefully this helps/clarifies what ive been saying a bit. -

I would also strongly recommend two digital books, which are actually a must for everyone who deal with faces: 1) The Art Of Moving Points by Brian Tindall 2) Anatomy Of Facial Expression by Uldis Zarins Making a face rig isn't about kinda fancy techs, but understanding the anatomy. If you don't know it, tech won't help. -

I ended up signing up for Scott Eaton's anatomy for artists, first week started today. Planning on taking Digital Figure Sculpture after too. Gnomon Workshop as probably some of the best DVD's on character animation. Eat3D has a DVD on facial animation for games. Digital Tutors cover alot of the basic and fundamentals. Animation Mentor supposed to be really good and pricey! Art of Rigging books seem to be well respected as well. Maybe someone who's in animating… -

I am working full time on my portfolio at the moment so you could say its non professional. I dont have a job at the moment and i am luck enough to be able to do this as i have funds to last me a couple of years. I have made money from art but not digital 3d stuff. -
