I am pretty sure you can get a student version of 3ds max for free if you go here, http://students.autodesk.com/ and then go to the free software, download, done. Remember you have to be either a student or an instructor. -

Well each channel is grayscale, and what I'm packing into those channels is blend maps so the texture doesn't blend simply with the blurry vertex information. Then blending is like in this free eat3d vid http://eat3d.com/free/vertex_painting -

Forest update! A lot happier with this lighting and composition wise. Shadron looks like it fits the bill, but it's £20 without a free trial. Kind of a deal breaker there; not going to pay for software if I can't give it a test drive. There has to be a free alternative kicking about, or even just proper tutorials for RenderMonkey. -

Played HoN when was free, now i can;t play because their system is so bad for some countries. LoL, it is worth to try this game? Btw i am waiting DOTA 2 do come out, HoN will be free then.
