in Epic's defence you only need the account to download the engine/source code or use the marketplace - you can work completely offline otherwise. This seems reasonable - they're giving you the engine in exchange for a little bit of data and you kinda need an account to use an online store.
@Eric Chadwick: I haven't used blend shapes in a while. May I ask if this is your personal workflow? I'll do some tests tomorrow, thanks for the suggestion. @Joopson: Yeah, this is what I usually (try to) do. After I think I'm finished with the lowpoly, I duplicate all meshes and make the cages, and do some test bakes.…
As Eric has said it's down to preference and the studio's pipeline, but here's the pros and cons to each I've found personally. Traditional SubD: * Very fine control over topology; it will do exactly what you tell it to * Non-destructive and flexible, you can make adjustments easily * Can be slower and require a lot more…
Thanks for all the feedback guys. The game is indeed in it's very early stages(pre alpha) and all of the art is place holder art, we are still looking for artists. @Achillesian While we are certainly not blind to the similarities that exist between our game and WoW, the same could be said in regard to many other RPG's that…
Yeah, sorry for being somewhat unclear there. I did mean 'like a grid', as Sage says. Everything you did before you sculpted would have been fine for a highpoly, but sculpting on a mesh like that is always problematic. Less so now than it used to be, but still. The advantage to sculpting is also that you can just subdivide…
Eric, I understand, and that's good advice. It's just that I think I've made a mistake of making realistic characters for my portfolio and then saying goodbye to all the potential environment or prop modeling positions when it came to looking for an internship. So it's more about if the studios enjoy seeing more specific…
That's a good point, Eric. Indeed, very good. Stopping trying to see the book in motion when seing the movie.. Thorgal! YES. One of my favs of my loved comic books of the times..Some preference by "The three ancients..." or however is traslated to english...That polish guy has a way to draw that is interesting. I probably…
uh thats some really nice improvement there nice head as well. there is quite some papers about introduction to shaders and such, and most of them also bring up some basics about the rendering pipeline. However you will mostly find these papers and articles if you dig it up on graphics coding sites, which are probably not…
thanks eric. that mod seems to work 95% - i get the tab panel functionality as i wanted, but whenever i pull up the graph editor from the timeline and push it down again, the tabs get briefly re-initialized as toolbars in the middle of the screen before the interface becomes usable again. that's quite weird - 7 never did…
Well, I wish the site wasn't so bloody slow. But it's interesting. I wish it wasn't written quite so one-sidedly too as Eric says, since it makes it hard to read. But I fundamentally agree with the point I think. Except that I wouldn't want to dismiss all modern Art just because it a) has been produced in the 20th century…
