The tutorial you're following has their resolution set to 2048x2048, whereas yours is only 256x256..So yours has 64x less pixels than hers, so of course yours will be way less sharp.
Which OS are you using? If you are using Windows 7 64bit I'd reccomend getting a full 16GB of RAM as its not too expensive compared to the other parts, and I personally find it makes a big difference. Wow long time no post ¬_¬ I have baked down the low poly now. Pretty sure I made things more in line with the AKM. A couple of AO issues but nothing major. Its 6400 tris, I inculded a wireframe. It felt a bit excessive but it was for a first person shooter. Have I used too many tris? Next up is texturing!
