np. ok so make sure you're in face select mode (the triangle on the toolbar, i'm sure you've found this at this point). if you choose to extrude region, it will do the whole ring along the normals, but scale accordingly. if you do individual faces, it should go along normals without scaling, and separate them. not sure if… -
