@Brick Top: That's your high-poly, right? If that's the case, why are you worrying about creating a full loop? The back parts of the sights is a flat space, so you can just end the loop in an already existing point, or even on an open poly. Flat bits on the high are really nice because triangles, five sided polygons, etc.…
Try this (red are the loops you have to make, green is the ones that are gone (ye I know colors don't make sense). where I drew a circle, make sure to keep the edge widths even, now every edge in that square has another width. If that doesn't work you will just have to try and space out the loop and/or push it back in a…
Wow didn't expect anyone to actually build it, thank you Shinigami. I usually add all the control loops just before I'm done with the main shape but this time I ended up having to go back to the shape after that's why there's so many loops. I do agree with you though I would like to be better at minimizing my polygons…
@Martin_H: Okay the simplest way I can say that is, I never used to collapse a turbosmooth in the stack and work on the high res mesh to add details, I used to add edge loops even if sometimes it gave me pinches, but now I let the turbosmoothed make more geo and edge loops for me and then I collapse and add the details.…
Hi! I've modeled this control panel piece that needed to have some specific button placement. I managed to achieve a working result without any noticeable shading errors at the distance/target we are aiming for, but, while it works, Im not happy at all with how the topology turned out and was wondering how to improve upon…
@Kanni3d Hey good points. Really didn't notice that I wasn't so far off after all. Yes I will definitely place supporting loops for the high poly. Thanks for the visuals.
just champfer/bevel the selecteds edge with more steps here i did 1 to 5 total loops, so you have enough supporting geo, but you will need to clean up the intersections
I want that curly piece. Any ideas on how to model that? I already tried to use a simple cylinder and after adding some loops twisting it but I never get this overlapping look.
There is a way in Wings3D. The circularise command. Just select the top and bottom edges, then press circularise and you have a circle. It can create circles from just about any edges that form a loop.
You are an absolute star joeriv, thank you :) Having a bit of an issue trying to get this to smooth correctly however, not sure how to run my edge loops: Thanks so much man :)
