WIP: Concept: Neox: Currently I'm trying out the Create Polygon tool to create the side profile, and perhaps extrude it sideways to create the overall shape. What I'm having a tough time dealing with is creating that fringe. I'm probably retarded or something. Just gonna keep meddling with this, see if it takes me…
Hi 3ds max newbie here. Sorry if this is an obvious question but I'm stuck. I'm trying to carve a design into a wall by using shapes derived from splines I've traced out: Is booleaning the way to go? I have 2 questions with that: 1. How do I preserve the contour of the splines when I use "normalize spline"? I'd use "edit…
Thanks for the advice! Decided I needed to work on my workflow so modeled this red dot sight. I may sound like a noob, but this is the first model I have done where I have blocked out all the shapes before. I cannot stress how usefull it is! I also like to post on my 3D blog workflow stuff I do for future…
Tumerboy: For that many tiny rivets, I'd probably go with painting them in a bumpmap later. I've fiddled alot with placing 3d rivets along surfaces in Max too though, and I'm not really happy with any method I've tried so far. Either I clone them out along a path, scatter them out to vertices of proxy geometry, or place…
Hello guys, First post on this forum and I immediatly start of with a problem! I'm working on my first model in 3Ds max, a Beretta 92FS. This is what I've got so far: http://users.skynet.be/bk334383/total.bmp And this is where the problem is situated: http://users.skynet.be/bk334383/trigger_hp.bmp And this is how it looks…
I've tried a couple different ways to accomplish the task and I've had a decent outcome but with the pinching occuring. I've improved greatly with high poly modeling and I normally like to start with the low poly and go with a turbosmooth/swift loop and/or a combination of the Quad Chamfer tool. I'm trying to figure out…
hey guys, i want to model this sword in 3ds max: but i got several problems. i started from a plane and defined the silhouette. after it i added several loops and gave the sword a curvy form with an ffd 3x3 modifier. then i inset all faces and draged them out to get some thickness and used a symetrie modifier to get both…
Doesn't Maya uses Catmull-Clark too? When you press 3, you can preview it, what you're using is a normal subdivision of the mesh (in the sense that your multiplying the number of edges only, keeping the structure shape), and that results is not really what you want. If understood right, he's using a function of 3ds Max…
Subdivs are only a pain if you haven't developed the skills to use them. Fusion and other solid surface modelers aren't any faster than subdivs. And you need to pay for another license to use them - and switch to another piece of software. I find it strange that you don't use subdivs? I use them daily and I'm an…
obliviboy: I'm not so sure I would point to that model as a guide for mesh flow, you've got tons of noob mistakes happening there. woody: your grip there looks fine, except for a spot or two, i mean are you worried that the wires look messy or something? It seems to look good in 3d, it could use some fatter bevels to give…
