So I redid the top wing normal maps with the leaves extruding and got the following normal maps. Since my UV's are overlapping 4 times total for the wings (I did mirror geometry twice while making the model), I created two normal maps. Firstly using all of the model and then only using 1/4 of the model to see if there was…
Okay, finally changed the bright star into a gaseous planet. I simply took a texture of Jupiter and tweaked the colors in Unreal. Also, I added a ring around the planet and slapped a gradient texture on it for a simple glow effect: Here is a comparison. Definitely looks better.
That's a good point. Should I focus on building up a human body shape first, and then modify that, or should I concentrate on building the model to account for the various shapes that build up the space suit? Like the connecting ring around the neck and the oxygen monitor on the chest.
What would be your recommendation on splits with LODs (bevels on edge or thin rings like around the brim of a hat)? It's extremely easy to ruin a good bake with a single collapse of those, but having a separate UV island/SG to support it doesn't seem efficient in the slightest.
I don't feel worthy to throw my hat in the ring here. This magnitude of awesome is far above my pay grade. I'll come back when I have proven myself in glorious battle and songs have been written of my victories.
#2 is mostly true in new/good game engines, I was always told that is something is round make it round, like it doesn't matter to have a "small" ring with 200 triangles. However we had tools for lods and other optimization. Don't try this on UE4 :( ...
Started on the multiple maps texturing on the lowpoly version with normalmap and all.. Still needs material variations and a bit of weathering. I feel like some selfillumination might help in some places, for patterns and reds in general. will see Time for duplicating these rings and fingers too!
thanks for all the comments :] crazyfingers: thanks. Yeah... I blame lazyness :D The env was such a quickie to pimp the prop ^^ Agree about the glowy ring, might revise that, I want the engine to show more, but i still want to keep the front a bit in the dark.
Thanks Mighty! That really made my day. Made that ring but got some strange unwanted alpha probs. I marked some parts where it isnt supposed to be transparant but does show up like that, using mirrored mapping btw. Any ideas?
I wouldn't recommend logitech g500 unless you have above average sized hands. g500 feels like holding an eggplant under your palm with no ergonomical rest points for thumb, ring and pinky finger. logitech g400/g402 kinda follows same design as g500.
