Yes that would be optimal. But in a lot of cases you end up with a lumpy mesh cause the artists start to create meshes with an even quad distribution. Sometimes its better to remodel the object by hand with the highpoly as ref.
Worked more on the anatomy under and added more accessories. Day after day im getting more time :D should have the highpoly done hopefully before this week ends. Here's today's progression:
The normal map itself looks really strange, almost like there is no difference between the highpoly and the lowpoly so the majority of the map is flat 127,127,255. What do your high and low poly meshes look like?
If you're coming from a highpoly source mesh in ZBrush just Decimate it, or in Max use the ProOptimize modifier. Why would you ever manually retopologize any organic non-deforming object like rocks?
Oniram! I would love some wireframes mate! I'm having problems highpoly modeling "panels"/carvings that curves along the surface like on the grip of this gun, thanks It sure looks amazing, great work
Thanks for the responses. The Highpoly is modeled as a single piece, I just wanted to save as many tries as possible and Ive seen people have the teeth of the rails as separate pieces on the low poly and gotten good results .
Using blender and 3d-coat, blender's retopo tools are surprisingly solid. Using 3d-coat when retoping over diffrent object so I don't need to combine the highpoly pieces in blender first.
In the last image, try adding more edges around the curve of the lowpoly model, and adjusting the lowpoly alignment with the highpoly. Sticky: Understanding averaged normals and ray projection/Who put waviness in my normal map?
Yes that is correct, I just baked the diffuse the same way you would bake any other map. The UVs for the highpoly were auto generated in Photoscan, so there's nothing special you need to do.
Those highpolys look amazing, but don't you think they might be a little too similar to Valve's Greevils to make it into the game (short legs, chubby torso, big head, horns, large mouth and small wings)?
