I think it's good skill to learn in general and indeed helpful in certain circumstances when you need to re-think the model shape but in actual production such details doesn't even require hi res models to bake from . You will be wasting you time for a sake of "sport" of perfect topology . People do this lately with edge… -

I just downloaded the nDo2 legacy version, and I was under the impression it was free, but it opens up saying that the trial has expired and I need to get a licence. Was my assumption wrong? About it being free. -

Technically, free assets undermine the market by devaluing paid assets. Although being able to choose whatever price you want poses a similar issue, and Unity seems to be doing fine with free assets available. -

Autodesk software is still free to the education community. It's something I'm very much a supporter of. http://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all Personally I don't see why that would even change.
