It looks like you've correctly split the uvs with hard edges there. If you box-select vertices in the problem area, are there any duplicates? Edit: You can also keep that interior as a single shell mapped straight, think of it as unrolling a ring.
way better! the outer ring is readable now and the wall has some of that heat light. For the inner section of the engine. Maybe give it a bit more orange/ red fade of from the middle. Just an idea. Not sure if it'll look better

ok thanks EQ so 2 things off the list, so does anyone know how to get a radius on the pre-selction highlighting, and does anyone know a way to get partial loop and ring selections, like what is possible in silo or maya.
Almost finished with the lowpoly. Just have to add some Rings to cover the edges of the hands and the neck. There's also a spot behind the ear where I still have to add a little bit of hair. Learned alot about UV unwrap + efficient usage of UVs.
